UKJAID is committed to the initial stage of the project and wants to assist its development into continuing wider programme. The project is developing into a key point of contact between the Jewish and Tibetan communities. We would like to reinforce this contact to benefit both communities"

Tibetan Jewish Youth Exchange (TJYE)
The Tibetan Jewish Youth Exchange (TJYE) was established to enhance the cultural identity of both Jewish & Tibetan youth through informal education & to forge links between the Jewish & Tibetan diaspora communities. It actively helps tibetan communities' youth movements to empower young people, that they can become leaders & make a difference. Visit ww.tjye.blogspot.comfor detail continuing work of the project's volunteers, including Jewish volunteers in India & Tibetan leaders on exchange in the UK.
Every year, in the months of July/August or December/January, Longsho youth leaders go to the UK Jewish community on an exchange programme for approximately six weeks.. In the UK, Tibetan leaders participate in informal education and leadership training in a number of different Jewish camps. All the programmes and courses are co-ordinated and funded by TJYE, UK Tibetan and Jewish educators.
The objectives of this exchange include:
-
To help young Tibetans internalise the importance of preserving their unique identity and Buddhist culture in exile.
-
To learn the experiences of over two thousand years of Jewish Diaspora.
-
To learn the Jewish model of informal education and youth leadership skill training from Jewish Youth Movements.
-
To strengthen both Tibetan and Jewish communities and youths' identities by sharing rich traditions and unique cultures of two communities.
-
Tibetan leaders will participate in Jewish youth camps that will include special leadership training and a learning experience about informal education as well as how to run a residential camp.
-
Tibetan leaders will run special programmes on Tibet in Jewish camps and be in a position to raise awareness of the distinct Tibetan culture, leading to increased support for the Tibetan cause within the Jewish community.
-
Learn from the story of Jewish survival and 'return', and the challenges of contemporary Jewish Diaspora experience, considering relevant implications for the Tibetan Diaspora.
TJYE's Role
TJYE help Longsho in the following areas:
1) Funding pitches:
TJYE has previously funded certain Longsho activities and also, TJYE members have made private donations to Logsho in the past (although these are of course not guaranteed) but TJYE are not to fund Longsho's core costs. However, we do raise funds to bring over two of Longsho's leaders to England next summer (These funds will only be used for this purpose).
2) Training Input - informal education, office work etc:
Many of TJYE's members have extensive experience in informal education and youth movement office work. As well as giving hands-on input to informal education activities, TJYE can assist with the development of infrastructure, strategic planning and leadership training for Longsho.
3) Cultural & social events (including Jewish Buddhist inter-faith dialogue).
