1. WHY THIS WEBSITE?

Preservation of Tibetan cultural identity is the most important activity in the existing Tibetan struggle movement. Considering the Chinese hard-line policy on Tibet, it is sure that the issue of Tibet will not resolve easily in few years even under the Middle way approach. By the time, Tibetans in Tibet will be overwhelmed by Han Chinese and Tibetans in exile will be increasingly assimilated to the host nations. So, in another word, the future of Tibetan freedom struggle is quite worrysome.

Well, we all cannot go and fight with the Communist China or talk with Chinese decision making bodies. The only way we can contribute to sustain our struggle movement in comming years is to learn, preserve and incorporate our own unique religion, culture, language and traditions.

The aim of launching this website is not just to create awareness on the organisation but rather to bring all Tibetan youths around the world to inspire, learn and commit themselves in the preservation of Tibetan culture and identity. We believe that through this website, Tibetan youths will learn and understand more about Tibetan history, culture and religion.

Besides, Longsho has many past committed youth leaders who are now moved to different parts of the world. This website calls all past Longsho leaders to come together, unite and continue to fulfill their dedication on the preservation Tibetan culture through this platform. We believe our promise to culture preservation in longsho is not just for one or two year in the organisation but rather a lifelong commitment.

 

2. WHO ARE THE CONTRIBUTERS?

This website is designed and developed by Tenzin Sherab ( Longsho volunteer) in such a way to suit both adults and school children. All materials inside the web are collected by him. The website is financially supported by National Endowment for Democracy NED.

 

3. WHAT IS IN THE WEBSITE?

There are total eight sections in the website. They are as follow;

a) About Tibet
This section is all about information on Tibet. Being Tibetan, it is very important to know some general facts on Tibet, which we have to pass down to our younger generation and to the outside community to educate on Tibet. The section includes seven subheadings.

b) About Us:
This section is an introduction to Longsho organisation. If you are knowing about the organization for the first time, we recommend reading this section first. The section includes:

c) Chapters:
This section deals with the various branch offices of the Longsho. Longsho has so far three offices, headquartered at Dharamsala and branch at Dickeyling and Kalimpong. The Dickeyling office is at present not functioning properly however we have future plans to strengthen it.  The Kalimpong office was set up recently in December 2008 with the inspiration from His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 2001as the Tibetans in the northeast region of India are assimilating to the local culture at very alarming rate which require top priority. The section is divided into three sub sections as follow;

It is important to mention that since due to unavailability of data on past leaders and past activities, many names of Longsho youth leaders are missing. d) Resource

We have few own researched resources on Tibet, Tibetans and on Jews.  The reason behind the compilation of these resources is to disseminate Tibetan information and create easy access to Tibetans youths and school going children for our ultimate goal of preservation of Tibetan cultural identity.  

We have so far enough resource on various subject related to Tibetan identity and on Jew’s model of youth movement and informal education. However, we are on continuously in process of researching and updating new information in the website. We hope in future this section will turn into one big encyclopedia on Tibetan related information.

Anybody who is interested in contributing to this resource section or wish give suggestions are welcome. We are looking forward to hear from you too.

Although longsho is build on a strong commitment to create awareness, inspire and preserve Tibetan culture among youths and has lots of activities to achieve but the organization desperately lack financial and human resources. So, any one including past members wish to support the cause of Tibetan cultural preservation can register their names according in the “Friends of Longsho” and “Volunteer Longsho”

 

h) Longsho News

Longsho carry out lots of activities through out the year depending upon the size of youth volunteer leaders. This section will disseminate such longsho activities to their members around the world. Sometimes announcement will also be made through this section.
